The area: User Experience

We follow a simple but vital premise in the User Experience group: “Focus on the user and all else will follow.” We’re passionately interested in our users and strive to learn everything we can about their behaviors, attitudes and emotions to help define the products and experiences we create. The User Experience team is a critical driving force behind gathering these insights and then using them to inspire and inform design. We are a multi-disciplinary team of interaction designers, visual designers, user researchers, copywriters and Web developers who collaborate closely with each other and with engineering and product management to create innovative, usable, great-looking products that people love to use.

The role: User Experience Designer

“Focus on the user, and all else will follow.” That’s one of the key philosophies behind everything that Google does, and Designers will help drive the design process for new Google products and features. As a UX Designer, you will work closely with engineers and product managers throughout all stages of the product cycle. You are a critical thinker with a good design sense, a strong technical background, and an eye for making things better. Designers will have an impact on the web experience of millions of Google users.

Responsibilities:

* Work closely with Product Management and Engineering to define user models, streamline experiences and produce both high-level flows and detailed UI mockups.
* Think of creative solutions to complex problems and proactively proposing improvements to the existing product.
* Design interfaces for multiple platforms that scale and extend elegantly.
* Juggle several projects at once in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment.

Requirements:

* Solid academic background in human-computer interaction or related field (BS or MS in Computer Science or related field a big plus)
* Demonstrated experience in designing usable interfaces for multiple platforms.
* Expert XHTML, HTML, Javascript and CSS skills.
* Familiarity with design techniques, such as, storyboarding, user research and wireframes required.
* Strong visual design sense.
* Ability to brainstorm well with other designers and give and take constructive feedback.

Les sites internet constituent la voie royale pour préparer son arrivée, comme en témoigne l’expérience de cette assistante de direction originaire de Toulouse. Je me suis inscrite depuis la France à l’agence de placement de Nicole Giguère, se souvient Sylvie Bernier installée à Montréal depuis 2005. Elle m’a contactée le 3 juillet, moins d’une semaine après mon arrivée, pour me proposer un poste. J’étais à peine installée, je n’avais pas encore de meubles et j’avais mes deux filles à la maison. Elle m’a offert un emploi trop rapidement. J’ai donc demandé qu’on me laisse deux, voire trois semaines jusqu’au 20 juillet. Elle m’a en effet recontactée le 18 juillet et, quelques jours plus tard, je commençais un emploi comme agent d’activité à HEC Montréal avec un salaire de 45 000$ ; j’y suis restée pendant trois ans.

LES CONDITIONS DE LICENCIEMENT
Les préavis de licenciement sont très courts. Un employeur chez qui vous travaillez depuis moins de trois mois peut vous débaucher du jour au lendemain. Si vous travaillez depuis plus de trois mois mais moins d’un an, le préavis passe à une semaine. De un à cinq ans d’ancienneté, le préavis est de deux semaines. De cinq à dix ans, le préavis est de quatre semaines. Les employeurs donnent leur chance plus facilement parce qu’ils peuvent débaucher très facilement, constate Sylvie Bernier. C’est couteau à double tranchant, mais cela rend le marché du travail très dynamique.

La transition entre deux emplois s’opère aussi de façon plus souple. Après trois ans de bons et loyaux services, Sylvie décide de quitter les HEC (Hautes études commerciales) pour travailler dans le domaine de la santé. J’ai trouvé mon nouvel emploi avant de démissionner, mais lorsque j’ai pris le risque de changer d’employeur, je savais qu’il y avait une période d’essai. J’avoue que je n’ai pas cherché de poste permanent car je sais que je vais retomber sur mes pattes. Si ce n’est pas cet employeur-là qui me garde, je vais bien en trouver un autre. On vient de sortir d’une période de récession et je ne l’ai pas vu passer. Je n’ai pas senti de réelles craintes de la part des employeurs pour embaucher.

LES HORAIRES, LES CONGÉS
La semaine normale de travail est de 40 heures, avec une plage horaire quotidienne qui s’étale généralement de 8 heures à 16 heures ou de 9 heures à 17 heures avec une demi-heure ou une heure de passe-déjeuner. L’employé a droit après une période de travail de cinq heures consécutives à trente minutes sans salaire pour le repas. Les heures supplémentaires travaillées doivent être payées avec une d’emploi sont gratuits puisque financés par Emploi-Québec, le ministère du Travail québécois. Vous y trouverez des conseils mais également un accès gratuit Internet, des téléphones, des ordinateurs, des photocopieurs, des matériels audiovisuels, des services de traitement de texte, des centres de documentation et des quotidiens. Ces clubs ne sont pas spécialisés dans l’accueil aux nouveaux arrivants : vous souhaitez une aide plus adaptée, consultez la rubrique sur les organismes d’aide aux immigrants.

LES CENTRES DE RECHERCHE D’EMPLOI
Des organismes gouvernementaux pourront vous assister sur place dans votre quête de travail. Nous vous présentons ici trois catégories d’organismes : les centres locaux d’emploi, les centres de ressources humaines du Canada et les carrefours jeunesse-emploi. Même si ces centres ne sont pas spécialisés dans l’accueil des immigrants, vous y trouverez cependant des offres d’emploi, des listes d’entreprises, des conseillers. En consultant les sites Web de ces organismes, vous découvrirez une foule d’informations, d’offres et leurs coordonnées.

Les CLE (Centres locaux d’emploi) du ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité du Québec sont répartis en 154 centres dans les 17 régions administratives de la province (www.mess.gouv.qc.ca). Tous les CLE d’Emploi-Québec comprennent un service d’accueil, d’emploi et d’aide financière, ainsi qu’une salle multiservice.

Les centres de ressources humaines du gouvernement du Canada (Service Canada) se trouvent sur tout le territoire (www.rhdcc.gc.ca et www.servicecanada.gc.ca )é O ;s gèrent les offres d’emploi et proposent, par ailleurs, plusieurs services d’accompagnement. Ainsi, c’est dans ces centres que les travailleurs étrangers, sans visa de résident permanent, doivent valider leur travail.

Les carrefours jeunesse-emploi du Québec s’adressent aux jeunes de 18 à 35 ans de la province (www.cjereseau.org).

LES ENTREPRISES FRANÇAISES AU QUÉBEC
En 2009, les échanges de biens entre la France et le Canada ont atteint plus de 5 milliards d’euros, en croissance de 5,7% par rapport à l’année précédente. Les exportations françaises ont enregistré une croissance faible ou négative dans les préparations pharmaceutiques (+ 13%), les vins et champagnes (+ 5%) et la construction aéronautique et spatiale (-1%). La France est l’un des plus importants investisseurs au Canada, avec plus de 24 milliards de dollars canadiens, dont 8 milliards pour le Québec. Au cours de années 90, les investisseurs français ont augmenté leur mise d’année en année, même si le premier investisseur dans l’économie canadienne reste, et de loin, les Etats-Unis. Plus de 40 000 employés se retrouvent maintenant dans les filiales françaises en terre canadienne, 15 000 d’entre eux travaillent au Québec. La Belle Province accueille plus de 330 sièges sociaux de filiales françaises sur son territoire et plus des trois quarts sont des émanations de PME (Petites et moyennes entreprises). Des entreprises établies qui sont présentes dans tous les domaines : la haute technologie, la construction automobile, le textile, la distribution alimentaire, les produits pharmaceutiques, l’édition, etc. Dans les relations économiques franco-canadiennes de ces dernières années, l’aéronautique constitue 25% des échanges autant au niveau de l’importation que de l’exportation. Le Québec occupe une large place dans les rapports entre les deux pays puisqu’il absorbe à lui seul 50% des exportations françaises au Canada.

C’était avec plaisir d’avoir reçu votre courriel ce mardi. Je voudrais vous exprimer ma reconnaissance plus sincère de me considérer comme une candidate en ce qui concerne la position Coordonnateur des articles en ligne. But, how can I get my Work Permit then ?

Pour étudier au Québec, c’est pas jeux virtuels!

Furieusement, j’ai donné la réponse du Bureau du registraire de l’UQAC à la coordonnatrice au Centre NAD… Pour ma part, les gens à Montréal ne sont pas très gentils et amicaux! Sincèrement, je veux revenir à l’Université Laval à la ville de Québec…

Hier après-midi, j’ai communiqué avec trois personnes au Bureau du registraire de l’UQAC par téléphone. Je leur ai répété ma situation plusieurs fois. Malheureusement, ils m’ont répondu que je ne peux pas être autorisée aller aux cours au Centre NAD sans Permis d’études. La dernière personne, c’est un monsieur. De mon côte, une étudiante étrangère, je lui ai expliqué que la lettre d’admission de l’UQAC a été envoyée trop tard et mon Permis d’études arrivera tardivement. Il m’a dit qu’il est possible que je fasse l’inscription de la session d’Hiver 2011.

De plus, aucune personne au Bureau du registraire de l’UQAC ne me répond par écrit jusqu’à maintenant. À mon avis, c’est vraiment incroyable!

Je pense que je dois demander Service aux étudiants étrangers de l’Immigration-Québec afin de consulter ce problème. Si je manque mon relevé de notes de la session d’automne 2010, je dois encore s’expliquer à l’Immigration-Québec l’année prochaine.

Pour étudier au Québec, Canada, c’est pas jeux virtuels !

又有朋友离开魁北克省了…

Y一不小心，又在Google里搜到了此文。感谢此位作者在两年前的感言，说出了大部分在魁省工作生活学习的华人心声！虽然我在这里的路还未行进多少，但凭设计师特有的敏感，却预料到了未来的路有多艰难！心生一丝莫名的恐惧感！现将此文转载至自己的部落格上，分享给国内还想走魁省移民的朋友们！

如果将此文翻译成法语，如果此译文被Yves这个老魁瓜看到，不清楚他是否还会乐意与我作室友并分享魁北克人特有的精神与文化生活。。。我何时才能有机会再回魁北克去看看夏季短短两个月的好风景和Laval这个让我又好气又好笑的魁独大学呢?

又有朋友离开魁北克省了…

今天上午，Jay代表我去送Jin。他也离开这里，要到伦敦（加拿大安大略省的）去了。这是我来这里后，送走的第四位身边的好朋友。昨天晚上还在Jin家，与Jay和兰一起聊天，调侃。虽然挺轻松，不过总有一丝不舍气氛。对，就像大学毕业时候，同宿舍的哥们明天就要各奔东西的那种感觉。

为什么大家都要离开魁北克省呢？对加拿大文化、历史及经济稍有了解的都知道。因为魁北克省历史的关系，法裔人士为主的省份，使得在这里唯一官方语言是法语。这也就是说，除了法语，其他语言包括英语都要为它让路。结果路上、商店…满眼尽是法语。作为加拿大另一官方语言的英文，在这里，按法律规定，可以没有，如果有，也要小于法语标示N倍的尺寸出现。于是，这里吸引了全球各地大量说法文的移民，还有同为拉丁语系的西班牙语移民。对于魁北克的问题，我作为一个移民，没有太多的意见。不过，就自己的浅见及认识，我觉得它有些自我封闭。因此，导致原本在50、60年代在世界展露头角的蒙特利尔市，非常可惜，在魁省Du Li运动后，开始经济快速下坠。许多国际大公司、财团的总部都纷纷外移，说英文的人也快速流失。直到今天，虽然魁省加国作为最特殊的、享有高度自治的省份，拥有对外独立招收移民的权利，它每年都花大量精力引进众多移民，但由于魁省的法语严重倾斜政策，于是每年不断地又让许多的英文人士甚至法语人士（因为经济的原因）不断外迁到其他省份甚至不远的美国去。

昨天几个朋友还在小小地抱怨了一下这个让人又爱又恨的地方，他们都在魁省这里接受完了高质量的高等大学教育，这里的学费凭良心说，在加拿大的全国十个省三个地区中，的确属于相当便宜的。而且还拥有北美及世界著名的几个大学，不过毕业后，面临就业的时候，一下问题全涌现出来了。工资相对于全国其他地区低很多不说，税还收得重，单从这点，魁北克省要怎么同全国其他省甚至更大的威胁–美国（低税收、高收入）去竞争需要的人才？更重要的是，10个工作选项中8到9个都先问你是否会法语。技术类的或许对语言要求不太多，但是…只要是与人打交道的职业，法语通通跑不掉、医疗卫生、法律、服务业…甚至生物制药(?有些想不通这个职业也受影响）身边的朋友刚好都是这些领域的，在别人眼中应该是高薪大好前途的职业，遗憾的是由于法语，全部中招。于是，一个个地，身边朋友们读完书，便开始无法避免地服从了这样的定律:”魁北克省是移民的最好中转站，让你以最低廉的价钱，装配好自己，然后飞走。”

可惜吗？这些都是人才啊，魁省培养出来的人才啊！世界出名大学的生化硕士、法学、医学生。在本地都缺乏这些人才情况下，他们还是摸摸鼻子，不忍地离开这里。

我身边离开的朋友难道就没有一个会法文？No!!!有，而且法文还超级好，但他考进了政府后，也走进了首都渥太华。政府工当然好，工资不错外，福利相当好。不过，同样地，法语一样不能少。Min通过自己多年努力，终于拿到这个很棒的政府衙门工，实在恭喜他。不过他也说，走吧，魁北克的确留不住。想到身边一个做妈妈的朋友，又急又气地同我说过，她现在一直处于紧张中，因为法律规定，她的孩子必须强制读法语学校，每次学校发来的所有与家长沟通的文书又统统都是法文。她现在是边照顾家里、孩子，边焦头烂额地拼着命学法语。虽然政府有给补贴，在魁省学法语又是免费什么的。但是，如果能用双语（法、英文），一定会大大减轻她的众多麻烦。

上周，打开本地少得可怜的某份英文周报，上面报道蒙城某著名英文AM新闻台不堪亏损转型为纯音乐台，致使众多英文DJ下岗，然后CBC及 GlobeTV的本地英文分台也都缩编人员的消息。同时还附了一个呼唤，英文在魁省这里真的是艰难生存。说实话，毕竟全球说英文还是主流。魁省如果能更以更宽容的态度去迎接英文甚至其他语言文化，这样会带来更积极的发展。看看现实，在台湾，说国语并不会抹杀说台语、客家语的人的文化，在中国大陆，说普通话，也不会将广东话、闽南话、上海话、浙江话…的地方方言及文化统统消灭掉。魁省真的大可不必那么自我畏怕！有朋友甚至嘲笑说，看！其实这是魁省这些说法语人士严重缺乏自信的表现。

当总理哈伯在国会上大声地、”深情”地宣称”魁北克省是国中国”的时候，魁北克许多人欢呼了。当魁北克省省庆日的时候，魁北克许多人激动地挥舞着省旗呐喊着时候，他们的后面其实是一个沉重的，难以避免的，越来越严重的魁北克省经济及社会问题。环视全球，一些自我封闭（但却自我认为是保护）的国家或地区，他们的教训都是一个，那就是，最终它及它的人民伤得最深。

我清楚知道自己是移民到加拿大国，我也知道自己未来入籍宣誓的时候是对着加拿大国旗以女皇名义来宣誓。在魁北克省，我当然会去学法语，但是：1）有时间吗？自己还有正课每天都要上 2）零基础的法语，我又能学到什么程度？真的很喜欢魁省、蒙特利尔市。一个非常美丽又富有个性的欧式法国风情的地方。休闲、浪漫。但是却相信对于我这个不懂法文的人，它一定无法成为我最终的落脚点。

Graduate Degrees in Software Ergonomics

In North American, I believe that only one country has the competitive and challenging environment. Undoubtedly, it’s called powerful USA. In comparison with Canada, obviously, they have the booming world-classic IT technologies with the rapid development even though they have experienced the serious economic crisis from 2009.

Now I was so disappointed with the search results from Internet:

In Canada, there are only 4 universities offer the relevant Postgraduate program in the domain of Human Factors and Interaction Design,etc. Unfortunately, there is no university name appears on the school list of Canada – École des Arts Visuels, Université Laval. Their Graduate program is called: Maîtrise (design multimédia) avec projet d’intervention et essai (MDM). The professor and the associated tutors are focused on the research of Interaction Design, Usability, Information Architecture, User Interface, Human Factors, Psychology, etc. As one of the french taught universities in the Province of Québec, most of Human Factors and Ergonomics experts are not familiar with this university at all just because of the language barrier and it is located in a special area of Canada – Québec City. Obviously, the Government Federal prefers to list most of universities which are taught in English in the other RICH Provinces such as Ontario and BC, especially the most famous universities – University of Toronto, etc. (The above thoughts is just my personal opinion. If you are not agree with me, please leave your messages below.)

On 24th, June, after having finished the political activities in Parliament Hill in Ottawa, on the way to the China Town, I had talked a lot with my former colleague Albert. Finally, he admitted if I get the Postgraduate diploma with Master Degree of Université Laval, actually it worth nothing after I come back to my hometown Shanghai. For me, this type of arguments is meaningless, we have already discussed too many times since last year. It is still focused on the language problem – French or English. In Shanghai, which types of companies such as Fortune 500 are willing to hire an overseas specialist who speaks in fluently French instead of awful English? We can do another social research right now…

When my BF was driving on the 401 highway to Toronto, through a flyover not far away, I got shocked to know an out-dated news from him: In 2007, one of a Chinese immigrants with double PHD Degree of US and Canada jumped from there in order to end his depressed life…a tragic fate…As a well-educated Chinese professional, it’s just a classical lesson happened in Canada. The suicide reason is complicated to explain, you can guess it by yourself or search from Internet…
